“The salvation of this human world lies nowhere else than in the human heart, in the human power to reflect, in human meekness and human responsibility.” - Václav Havel
In 2020, the whole world faces a global challenge. While trying to combat the epidemy by all necessary means - scientific, social and economic – and while facing other urgent social issues, including racism that is still intrinsic in our societies, we are trying to come up with a meaningful vision of our future and the world we want to live in. A deeper understanding of our situation entails reckoning and transformation of the ways in which we interact with the world as a humankind. This response cannot be just in terms of numbers, statistics and charts - i.e just more of what we have been doing for the last several centuries.
As a philosophy and a commitment, it has led the humankind from dark spots many times already. By bringing to the spotlight quotes by e.g. Václav Havel, Jan Patočka, Karel Čapek, T. G. Masaryk and J. A. Komenský – all of them humanists who were committed to political action, we want to stimulate a vision of future based on shared emphasis on humanity as a commitment.
