Press release: Launch of the first ever Poetry Jukebox in Belgium

The very first Poetry Jukebox in Belgium waslaunched in Brussels in the Saint-Catherine neighbourhood on 26 September! Next to the Tour Noire/Zwarte Toren, the poetry sound installation will be unveiled on the occasion of the European Day of Languages.

The City of Brussels, together with the Transpoesie Poetry Festival (organized by EUNIC Brussels) has brought the Poetry Jukebox to Brussels. The installation is  a Czech initiative that offers visitors and residents of the Belgian capital a unique way to hear and enjoy the diversity and beauty of European languages.

 

For the creators, Ondřej Kobza and Michaela Hečková, “listening to the original voices of authors reciting their poems is one of the most inspiring and most beautiful experiences that one can encounter in the city.”

 

For the rest of the year, the people of Brussels can push a button on the Poetry Jukebox right next to the Church of Saint-Catherine, and choose from 18 poets their own different languages, with Dutch and French translations.

Attending the launch was Karine Lalieux, Alderwoman for Public Cleaning, Culture and Tourism of the City of Brussels together with Czech author Zuzana Fuksová,  Finnish slam duo Melinda&Malin, who performed at the outdoor event.
