OPEN CALLS in the Czech Republic

01. 06. 2018

This page serves as an overview of Open Calls in the Czech Republic.

Open call for artists and researchers: Agosto Foundation

Conditions: Artists and researchers receive a private apartment in the center of Prague for a period of up to 3 months, a grant of approximately €750 (in Czech currency) to support the proposed project, travel expenses (limited) and assistance in its implementation.

Eligibility: The Foundation encourages and welcomes the participation of artists, curators and researchers from various backgrounds to apply for the support of projects which are in line with the mission of the Agosto Foundation and the declared objectives of the residency.

Through the Agosto Residency Program, the Foundation seeks to create a context, not restricted solely to artists, for those active in the cultural realm to step outside of their usual frames of reference and to reach across disciplines. The aim is to facilitate, support and maintain a general platform for engaged, creative, adisciplinary (not oriented toward any one discipline) and exploratory projects. A special focus will be on artists and specialists whose work has crossed (or implies the crossing of) the boundaries of their fields (visual art, new media, sound art, experimental music, literature, etc.) Other interdisciplinary collaborations or cooperations are welcome to apply, as well.

Deadline: August 15, 2018 for residencies taking place between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019

Call for Applications: Prague Quadrennial

Last call for the Prague Quadrennial, the largest international scenography, performance design and architecture festival! You still have a chance to be a part of it.

PQ? Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space is the largest international exhibition and festival event dedicated to scenography, performance design and architecture which takes place every 5 years since 1967.  PQ brings together professionals, students and the general public from over 70 countries and regions.

The 14th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space will be held in Prague June 6 -16, 2019.

This edition of Prague Quadrennial is inspired by the Golden Triga, the statue and the main award traditionally given as the highest prize to the best exhibition. PQ will use the metaphor of the Triga to explore three points of view, three areas connected with cyclical phases of creative process: Imagination, Transformation and Memory.

The Prague Quadriennal has launched several open-calls and is still receiving applications:

-          PQ studio: Festival – submission deadline: June 30th: will present performances and installations that are conceived and created with students, offering the opportunity for emerging performance creators to have their work on an international stage. PQ is looking for students and emerging artists from the fields of visual and performing arts.

-          The Best Performance Design & Scenography Publication Award  - submission deadline: August 17th: this award during the Prague Quadrennial 2015 received wide-spread public recognition, expanding the visibility of a diverse range of publications created about and around performance design and scenography.

-          PQ Talks - submission deadline: August 31th : PQ Talks is an exchange of presentations, forums, and discussions exploring all aspects of performance design. It will follow the main themes of PQ2019 connected with the cyclical phases of the creative process: Imagination, Transformation, and Memory. Through these areas the curators seek to explore “scenography” in its broadest sense, investigating what scenography is, what scenography could be, and what scenography was.

-          PQ Studio: Workshops and Masterclasses - submission deadline: May 31th: program of multi-day intensive workshops and exploratory masterclasses connecting established professionals with emerging and student designers. PQ is looking for professionals, educators, arts administrators, and emerging artists to lead workshops from all areas of the visual and performing arts – scenography, architecture , costume design, scenic/space design, sound design, lighting design and technology, digital media, projections, puppetry, technical theatre, dance and choreography, theatre theory, and fine art.

-          Performance Space Architecture Exhibition for individual artists - submission deadline: May 31th: Prague Quadrennial is asking architects/space creators and performance designers to participate in a competitive exhibition by sending us short videos about projects realized in past 6 years. All submissions need to show the space as well as how it is used in performance. All submitted videos must include a dialogue between the space creator (architect) and the performance designer/s or performers using the space.
