TRANSPOESIE 2016 opening evening: Marlena Braester and Elyesa Koytak

The TRANSPOESIE poetry festival is organized for the sixth consecutive year by EUNIC Brussels, the European Union National Institutes for Culture based in the Belgian capital. It officially begins at the end of September, marking the European Day of Languages on 26th September. This year, TRANSPOESIE will organize on this day its first literary evening with two poets – Marlena Braester from Israel and Elyesa Koytak from Turkey at the Instituto Cervantes in Brussels. The evening will consist of reading of poetry with screened translations and a debate with the poets which will be held in French.

The project aims at promoting multilingualism and cultural diversity in Europe but also at the work of translators as well as language teachers. Inspired by the successful and long-standing “Poems on the Underground” in London and “Wiersze w Metrze” in Warsaw, as well as similar projects run in various capital cities all over the world such as Paris, New York and Montreal, EUNIC Brussels brings European poetry in its original languages to the Brussels. The goal of the past five editions was to put poetry into the Brussels public space, in the tramways, the metro trains, the busses. This year we are focusing on the quality of the poetry events and the launch of a brand-new website.
