Tiburtina Ensemble at Klarafestival

Czech female vocal ensemble returns to Belgium to present its new project called “Ordo Virtutum”. Tiburtina Ensemble focuses on an interpretation of Gregorian chant of medieval polyphony and contemporary music and has interpreted quite a number of times in Belgium at MAfestival Brugge.

Tiburtina was established in 2008 and nowadays, the ensemble belongs to the best vocal ensemble worldwide. It concentrates on correct oral presentation and vocal technique. However, that all has to correspond with music and knowledge of period musical practice. The repertoire of the ensemble is diverse thanks to liturgical medieval sources. There are also sacred and profane compositions included in the concerts. The name of the female vocal ensemble is inspired by a real personage of medieval history Sibylla Tiburtina - a fortune teller, who was famous for her Christian prophecy.

Ordo Virtutum, which was written by German Christian mystic, writer, philosopher and composer Hildegard von Bingen, is originally a morality play, in which sixteen virtues and also a devil try to rule over the human soul. The fight between those entities reflects the fight between the good and the evil.

The audience of the Klarafestival will have the unique opportunity to listen to a composition of another Czech musician Ondřej Adámek. Tana String Quartet will play Adámek’s composition Lo que no' contamo' within the Crossroads project in a world premiere.
