.The Collection (1) | Highlights for a Future

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the S.M.A.K. (Museum of Contemporary Arts in Ghent), the museum is presenting an exhibition called .The Collection (1) | Highlights for a Future, which includes about 200 works. The aim of the exhibition is to focus on the present and future and to express the values of this institution.

The exhibition comes up with the idea that it is not possible to capture the social reality and the art in one linear concept. This idea is further divided into seven separate presentations, which are unique and deal with contemporary trends in the society. (S.M.A.K.)

While visiting the exhibition, you will have a chance to see works of Czech artist Adam Vačkář called „The indefinite continued progress of existence and events (that occur in apparently irreversible succession)“. Find more about the work here.

This talented artist has already displayed his works in Centre Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the National Gallery in Prague…etc. In Brussels, he is represented by Dauwens & Beernaert (the gallery featured Vačkář at Art Brussels) and was the artist in residence at Villa Empain in 2018. The main themes that are included in Vačkář’s works are a new materialism, devastation caused by industrialization, technologies of mass production and distribution, turn of living tissue into a plastic medium, transforming landscapes.
