Science café - Thomas Jung

You are cordially invited to the upcoming encounter with an outstanding personality from the field of science. This time, Science Café will host Thomas Jung, a German plant pathologist, who runs the Phytophthora Research Center at Mendel University in Brno. The debate will be held on 6th December from 7PM in the Pilsen House, in collaboration with CZELO, Czech Embassy in Brussels, Delegation of Prague to the EU, Representation of South Moravian Region and Representation of Pilsen Region, Mendel University in Brno and the Phytophthora Research Center.

Thomas Jung has more than 20 years of experience in plant pathology and he is one of the most renowned Phytophthora experts in the world. He produced the first evidence of Phytophthora pathogens being the cause behind the widespread forest declines in Europe; he also coordinated the largest forest disease survey in European history. Phytophthora is a genus of plant-damaging  water molds, whose member species are capable of causing enormous economic losses on crops worldwide, as well as environmental damage in natural ecosystems.

Dr. Jung holds the position of the Head Scientific Researcher at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology of Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic.

The event will be held in English and will be followed by a glass of wine.
