Screening of the film "First Republic" at the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the European Union

Czech Centre Brussels in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Belgium would like to invite you to the screening of a documentary film “First Republic” by Serhii Nazarov. The screening will take place in the premises of Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU on 3rd April 2017 at 7:30pm and will be followed by a discussion with Evgeny Dunaev, the director of Information and Legal Centre “Apriori” and Nadiia Ivanova, Project Coordinator of East European Program at People in Need. “First Republic” is a documentary about the Transnistrian region and its population, witnessed by a young Ukrainian director Serhii Nazarov. Film shows Transnistria through the eyes of the locals – although from different social classes, they are surviving the same conflict and war. The film is set as series of interviews with Transnistrian activists and ordinary people about the life in the region, their relations with Moldova and their views on the annexation of Crimea and war in Ukraine.

The screening will be followed by a debate with experts on the issues of Transnistria. First guest of the evening will be Evgeny Duanev, the director of Information and Legal Centre “Apriori” that was founded in Tiraspol, Moldova (Transnistria) in 2008. This organization aims to support human rights and strives for development and freedom in Transnistria. From 2011, together with the People in Need - Czech humanitarian, development, education and human rights foundation - it coordinates “Apriori” debates, screenings and other events, which intend to explain the local problems to large public.

Nadiia Ivanova is the Project Coordinator of East European Program at People in Need foundation. Centre for Human Rights and Democracy of the People in Need operates for example in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova – Transnistria, Russia, Ukraine and in the Central Asia. This organization is based on ideas and values of humanism and solidarity, which intend to help the people in need.

The screening is organized under the auspices of H.E. Jaroslav Kurfürst, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium.
