About author:

Marek Šindelka (1984) is a Czech poet and prosaist who made literary debut with a poetry collection Strychnin a jiné básně (Strychnine and Other Poems, Paseka, Praha 2005 – awarded by Jiří Orten Prize in 2006), followed by his first novel Chyba (The Mistake, Pistorius & Olšanská, Praha 2008), which later came out as a graphic novel as well. A short story collection Zůstaňte s námi (Stay with Us, Odeon, Praha 2011) won Šindelka the prestigious Magnesia Litera Award in 2012. His recent work was a novel Mapa Anny (The Map of Anna, Odeon, 2014). Marek Šindelka lives in Prague and works as a literary reviewer in the Czech newspaper Hospodářské noviny.

The Map of Anna

The Map of Anna is a new collection of short stories containing ten texts which are mutually related. Their protagonists appear and disappear repeatedly and we could see them from different perspectives and from different points of view of various characters. Marek Šindelka has already focused his stories on relations: on love and family as well as destroyed and empty relationships. In this work, he is much more specific, intimate and straightforward as for portrayal of senses.
