Magdalena Kožená and Mahler Chamber Orchestra will perform in Brussels

Henry Le Boeuf Hall will host Magdalena Kožená, one of the most popular Czech opera singers, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra conducted by Rafael Payare. Concert of breathtaking compositions from the Czech repertoire will take place on 15th March 2017 at BOZAR.

After its remarkable performance of all of Beethoven’s Concertos for piano, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra is returning to the Centre for Fine Arts with two jewels from the Czech repertoire: Smetana’s famous Moldau and Dvořák’s 7th Symphony, with its particularly Slavic accents. In counterpoint, the great Czech mezzo Magdalena Kožená, whose colourful voice and stage presence have already stunned audiences here at BOZAR on numerous occasions, will interpret a magnificent work by the Italian composer Luciano Berio. His Folk Songs, based on popular European tunes and songs, demonstrate the extremely diverse range of cultures that make up our continent.

Magdalena Kožená was born in the Czech city of Brno and studied voice and piano at the Brno Conservatory and later with Eva Bláhová at Bratislava’s Academy of Performing Arts. Kožená has worked with many of the world’s leading conductors, for example Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir John Eliot Gardiner or Bernard Haitink. She is also in demand as soloist with the Berlin, Vienna and Czech Philharmonics and the Cleveland, Philadelphia and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestras.
