One World in Brussels 2018: System Update

An ever larger part of our lives takes place in virtual space, and so the question of human rights increasingly touches on cyberspace as well. What are our rights to privacy, how much does our online data say about us, how can it be misused for human rights violations, and what challenges does the spread of social networks bring to our real, offline lives?

But One World looks beyond cyberspace – this year’s festival offers a look at human rights issues from many different, often surprising, angles.

REGISTRATIONS mandatory to all the screenings and debates (free of charge) HERE.

The films shown in Brussels are a selection from more than 100 films shown at One World in Prague. The emphasis is on topics of interest of the EU and those in which People in Need has a direct expertise. An integral part of the festival is a series of discussions with human rights defenders, politicians and experts and advocacy meetings. In 2018, One World will again reflect current political and social topics.

The opening ceremony will take place in the BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts on April 23.

The screenings will be held at the Czech Permanent Representation, BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts, the European Parliament, Norway House, Cinema Galeries, and House of European History.

An exhibition "Prisoners of the Kremlin: Invisible victims of an undeclared war" is on display throughout the festival at the Czech Permanent Representation free of charge before and after screenings. More here

The Brussels festival also cooperates with Movies that Matter (The Hague), Festival Des Libertés (Brussels), Watch Docs (Warsaw) and also with Human Rights and Democracy Network, UN Information Centre (UNRIC), Search for Common Ground, European Partnership for Democracy, EuroMed Rights, Christian Solidarity Worldwide  and with international team of lawyers Frank Bold.
