Two films made in Czech co-production screened at Film Fest Gent 2017

The 44rd edition of Film Fest Gent will feature two films made within the Czech co-production. The film „ Spoor“ by Polish director Agnieszka Holland shows a mysterious crime story about a small-town murder. „The Trial - The State of Russia vs Oleg Sentsov“directed by Askold Kurov is a documentary about the imprisonment of an Ukrainian filmmaker for his support of Crimean independence.

Film Festival Gent is one of the most famous film events and it was founded in 1974. Originally a student festival has since developed into one of Europe's most prominent film events which should not be missed by any film fan. Every year in October, it introduces in different categories more than 100 feature films and 50 short films from all across the world to more than 100,000 spectators. In this year‘s special selection titled Focus on Italy“ the program of 44th edition of Film Fest Gent is bringing the best of the new Italian cinema and looking back at the glorious past of one of the most historically important film countries in the world.

Spoor by Agnieszka Holland (2017, 128 min)

Agnieszka Holland's new film is a wintry small-town murder mystery: „Janina Duszejko, an eccentric retired construction engineer, an astrologist and a vegetarian, lives in a small mountain village on the Czech-Polish border. One day her beloved dogs disappear. A few months later she discovers a dead body of her neighbour, a poacher. The only traces leading to the mysterious death are those of roe deer hooves around the house. Duszejko is convinced that she knows who or what is the murderer, but nobody believes her...“

The Trial - The State of Russia vs Oleg Sentsov by Askold Kurov (2017, 75 min)

A documentary about the Ukranian filmmaker imprisoned for his support of Crimean independence is a scrappy testament to the true nature of the Vladimir Putin regime.
