Screening of documentary "The Limits of Work"

How are working conditions in hospital laundry rooms, poultry houses and waste-sorting facilities  in today’s Europe? On Wednesday 31 January, a screening in European Parliament will present some of the life stories of employees in low-qualified jobs, captured by a hidden camera. The documentary "The Limits of Work" is a winning film of Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival 2017. The screening will be followed by a debate with the director Apolena Rychlíková and the main protagonist Saša Uhlová.

"The Limits of Work" is a Czech documentary (2017) directed by Apolena Rychlíková. The main protagonist and the co-author of the script is the journalist Saša Uhlová who got herself employed under a fake identity in a number of low-paying jobs, or jobs with minimum vage, over a six-month period.  The authors‘ goal was to point out to poor conditions of many employees.  Uhlová’s personal comments about bad circumstances at workplaces make part of the movie.  Her secret investigation revealed that employers do not always stick to the Czech labour code, which caused a wave of concerns in public and media.

The film was premiered at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, where it was awarded the best Czech documentary of 2017.

The film will be screened in Czech with English subtitles. Discussion with the authors will be translated into English.
