„Grand Moravia“ Trio at Brussels Jazz Marathon

Traditionally, you can look forward to one weekend in May filled with jazz atmosphere in Brussels. From 20th to 22nd May 2016 the 21st edition of the Brussels Jazz Marathon will take place and will offer more than 250 concerts and 700 musicians. Within this festival, performance by “Grand Moravia“ Trio will take place at the stage at Place du Grand Sablon, who will present themselves to the Brussels’ audience in the composition of Emil Viklický (piano), František Uhlíř (double-bass) and Jiří Stivín Jr. (drums). The concert is going to be on Saturday 21st May from 7:45pm to 9pm. All entrances to the Brussels Jazz Marathon are free.

"Grand Moravia" Trio is going to arrive to Brussels in the composition of Emil Viklický, František Uhlíř and Jiří Stivín Jr.  Two legends of the Czech jazz scene Emil Viklický and František Uhlíř started their career in various music groups together, but also with other outstanding Czech musician Jiří Stivín. This time his son, Jiří Stivín Jr., also enourmously talented Czech musician, will introduce himself at this occasion.

Emil Viklický – piano

Emil Viklický is a significant Czech jazz pianist and composer. He studied mathematics at the Faculty of Science at Palacký University in Olomouc. In the 70s he played in the orchestra SHQ of Karel Velebný and in the Super Quartet with Jiří Stivín. In the years 1977-1978 he studied jazz at Berklee College in the USA. Currently he performs mainly along with František Uhlíř and Laco Tropp in the Emil Viklický´s Trio.

František Uhlíř – double-bass

František Uhlíř was born into a musical family as the grandson of a band leader and son of a musician, music teacher, composer, bandleader and band-master of jazz bigband. He studied piano play at the Elementary Art School at the age of thirteen and played the organ in the beat band of Vladimir Volf. Already during his studies he played in the orchestra of Janacek Opera, in Brno Philharmony and in a jazz quartet of his father. He was at the birth of jazz quartet (E. Viklický, F. Uhlíř, J. Dušek, J. Růžička).

Jiří Stivín Jr. – drums

Jiří Stivín Jr., one of the most talented Czech drummers, whose dynamic solos on drums are a real experience for the audience. He was born in 1975 in Prague into a musical family. He started playing the drums in early childhood. From the age of 15, he played in the band of his father called Jiří Stivín & co Jazz Quartet. Jiří Stivín Jr. is a versatile drummer, who fulfils himself in different musical styles from jazz to rock, pop, folk music to classical music. He is currently playing in groups Alice Springs, Yardy Helešice, the band of Jiří Stivín, Michal Gera, Emil Viklický, Roman Pokorný and others.
