ABCZ or All You Need to Know about Czechia and the Czechs

The book ABCZ or All You Need to Know about Czechia and the Czechs (by Denisa Šedivá) will be launched during an evening at Prague House in Brussels. The book’s author came up with an idea to write about her homeland – the Czech Republic – due to her own experience as an expat and expat mother. This book is dedicated not only to children, but also to foreigners that want to know more about the Czech Republic and its culture.

The book is unique because of its playful concept. Every chapter represents a letter of alphabet through a word typical for the Czech culture which is explained to the reader in an interactive form through illustrations, proverbs and tasks. It has already been shortlisted for the Most Beautiful Czech Book of 2018!

After working in PR, culture and public administration, Denisa Šedivá has written a book called A Peaceful, Yoga Road towards Motherhood, awarded a prize for the Most Beautiful Czech Book 2013 and the Best Graphic Design award 2014. The author had, as in the case of ABCZ, a source of inspiration in her own struggle to find a quality guide for pregnant yogini, so she wrote it. oth of her books were co-created by the illustrators and graphic designers Adam Macháček and Sebastian Bohner. The translators to English language Robert Russell and Ivan Gutierrez complete the creative team.

Guests of the evening: H. E. Ingrid Schulerud, Norwegian Ambassador to Belgium, Fariba Thomson, art Historian, Robert Russell, translator, and of course the author of the book, Denisa Šedivá. The evening will be accompanied by the guitar duo LOS AMBOS (Ambassador Jiří Šedivý and Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven).
